{Hooray for Color!} Pantone Color of the Year for 2012: Tangerine Tango

So here it is, “THE” color of 2012… Tangerine Tango. Apparently they debut the next years color in December, but in recent years I start wondering right about now.

Is it what I was expecting? (I like to play a little guessing game with myself.) No. I’ve actually been resisting orange I’ve noticed and surprisingly been pulled like a moth to a flame to yellow hues, as you will eventually see in my home tour (and my background of course). I’ll have to ponder this electric coral color some more before I draw my final conclusions. I think a plum  or indigo is what I was subconsciously imagining for this legendary year. However, I have been seeing some gorgeous things using just this version of orange and I can’t deny it’s allure.

Read about it here: Fashion + Home – Pantone Color of the Year for 2012: Tangerine Tango PANTONE 17-1463.

"Tangerine Tango, a spirited reddish orange, continues to provide the energy boost we need to recharge and move forward."

I found the following description of the meaning of the color orange here:

Orange combines the energy of red and the happiness of yellow. It is associated with joy, sunshine, and the tropics. Orange represents enthusiasm, fascination, happiness, creativity, determination, attraction, success, encouragement, and stimulation.

To the human eye, orange is a very hot color, so it gives the sensation of heat. Nevertheless, orange is not as aggressive as red. Orange increases oxygen supply to the brain, produces an invigorating effect, and stimulates mental activity. It is highly accepted among young people. As a citrus color, orange is associated with healthy food and stimulates appetite. Orange is the color of fall and harvest. In heraldry, orange is symbolic of strength and endurance.

Orange has very high visibility, so you can use it to catch attention and highlight the most important elements of your design. Orange is very effective for promoting food products and toys.

Red-orange corresponds to desire, sexual passion, pleasure, domination, aggression, and thirst for action.
