{G’day!} Ahhh, Monday Morning..

Ahhh, Monday morning… this semester I’m enjoying this day of the week quite a lot – now that I’m over that nasty Physics bump in the road. My day begins between 5 and 5:30am, so I can begin working in morning yoga and beat all the ghastly commuter traffic to this campus. This morning I din’t fit in the yoga, but since I am out of lemons for my am water, I decided to try the peach green tea I just bought and oh it’s sooo good. I’ll admit I was surprised at how much I like it because it’s Celestial Seasonings, nothing fancy. Correction: it was Bigelow Peach Green Tea. But to find a green tea I really enjoy that won’t break the bank- I’ll take it! :)

I get to school when barely anyone is there and have a good hour to myself before my 9am class begins. It’s on the second floor and something I am particularly taking note of is my recent enthusiasm for geodes, which greet me each Monday and Wednesday when I step off the elevator. It instantly brings a smile to my face and I’m drawn to the case each time to revel in the natural beauty of such gems. Lucky me too that the latest videos from Spirit Science is a four part series on crystals – oh joy!!! :)

It’s a great thing to be in a good mood so early on a Monday, or yes on any day for that matter. I hope it keeps up and your day is bright and happy as well. If not, try meditating on a beautiful stone.

{Noooo!!} Google Shuts Down Picnik, the Awesomest FREE Photo Editing Service

I just checked my email to find this upsetting news. From what I understand according to this article, Google is planning to incorporate Picnik-like services into its other services across the Google empire, specifically Google+ – which I still know nothing about; hubby says it’s popular with photographers. Anyways, that sounds like a whole lot of shit to me. I don’t want to have to go through the Google portal for such services. I don’t care for a lot of what Google puts out. I use their email and docs (although they never print right), but I could care less about Picasa (which I did try), their social network, or many of the other Google products that have come across my screen. This feels to me like the total death of a great service, as opposed to a rebirth in a better way. It sounds like an awful idea even though, yes, I may be a bit panicky at the moment and resisting change because I trust Google about as much as I do any other mega-huge-take-over-the-world corporation. So let me just say… FUCK! SHIT! WHY!!! You bastards, you killed Picnik!!!

Here’s the official word from Picnik (notice how they don’t mention what’s really going on at all, and basically just sink out the back door with their tail between their legs.) Dammit Google, why didn’t you just keep your grimy little hands off if this is how you’re going to go about your business!

Since joining Google in 2010, we have been creating editing magic in Google products while continuing to keep Picnik awesome. But now we get to focus on even awesomer things. Picnik will be closing on April 19, 2012.

{Just Say NO!!!} Take Action Against SOPA & PIPA: Say NO to Internet Censorship!!!

My class is about to start so I have to make this quick. I’ll admit that I have not yet had time to read up on what the details of this are. However, I’ve been a supporter of Save the Internet since I heard of them because I know how fucked the powers that be are and it’s not difficult to see why the open internet is a threat to them. So, now that SOPA & PIPA are getting more attention for the threat that they are to free and open communication, I’m all about shutting them down. I’ll admit that I’m a pirate and while I’ll save that rant for another day, my desire in killing these bills is not so that I can steal shit. **Note: I do not view my actions as theft in the traditional sense, more of a “taking it back” sort of thing. So, here’s the website, let’s make this happen – STOP SOPA & PIPA!!! I do wish I knew of better options than just signing a petition and calling my representative, but do what you can.

{Sweet Joy-gasm!!} We got a Vitamix!!!!

It finally happened! We’ve been in wanting for years; me especially. Almost two years ago, we almost had one. The price was right, the arrangements set, my husband took his work weary butt out to Timbuktu- but it was minutes too late as the seller jacked us and sold to someone else who was leaving as the hubs approached. What a fucking asshole! Here in the ATX I’ve set an alert on my phone using Craigslist Pro+ to be alerted as soon as a Vitamix hit the CL market. I’ve seen them come, and I’ve watched them go almost as if they never really existed at all. I thought I had me one for $150 last month. My vision blurred and I almost had a heart attack just reading the post. I immediately responded, but the seller did not leave a phone number, only an email – the torture!! I made my interest very clear, and after two hours I was  working myself into a frenzy. I knew something was wrong, so I emailed again. Nothing. The next day… nothing. The ad was still there for two days but I never got a response. And then it was gone.

Then there was today. **cue heavens parting choral music** My alarm sounded and I was surprisingly alert and ready for the day. My finger automatically stretched to silence my phone, and with sleep wary eyes I caught a glimpse of… hmmm, was that?… no, it’s probably nothing… a vitamix?… yeeaaahh, I think it was, but c’mon it’s probably another $600 monstrosity, just forget it…. like hell! you better wipe the sleep from your eyes and check that shit! And I did just that. Before I finished brushing my teeth excitement had taken hold – I have the $300! I can pick it up right now! It must be MINE!!!

And now it is. :D And I shall name it Bliss (which is coincidentally the name of a raw food cafe we adore in Dallas). My androgynous partner and I will be making sweet, sweet love together. We consummated our union tonight by creating THE BEST carrot soup I’ve ever had in my life. Oh yeah, I’ve got a keeper.

My baby performed beautifully and with the fantastic cookbook that came with this gorgeous package this recipe warmed me all over and tickled my tongue just right. (okay, I know the sexual innuendo involving a kitchen appliance may be odd to some, but don’t judge my love; it’s pure.) It was wonderful being able to whip up such aaahhh-mazing and healthy fare so quickly and easily for my other baby, who happens to be in his second week of being sick (boo!). Truly a great culinary experience and piece of equipment that I am VERY grateful for.

{Hellz Yeah!} Peter Joseph on The Joe Rogan Experience

This is the bomb-diggity. I like that Peter is drinking a beer and cussing more. I’m only half way through as it keeps stopping on my phone, but it’s really good. Peter’s response to Joe’s question about how this utopian world is supposed to happen when there are so many retarded-ass barbarians running amuck, and what TZM proposes to do about them, sparked a great conversation between me and the hubs that I will have to post about later.

Hip-Hop Holiday, Pt. 1

I am not a big rap or hip-hop fan. Pretty much the only reason I ever listen to it is because it can be great to dance to, like pop music. As far as most of the lyrics and characters who “rock the mic”… I find the things they rap about shameful and disrespectful to those who struggled against such adversity for equality. I really wish my black brothers and sisters would have more integrity than to stand there rakin’ in the benjamins for bragging about superficial bullshit and being obnoxious. (I could clearly go on.)

There are rappers and hip-hop artists who got it right though. I get excited when I discover a beat poet who actually says something worth listening to- and makes my head bob. So, I’m going to share a few of those people with you. I have no doubt I’m way out of the loop on worthwhile artists in this genre, so please share if you know someone I should be listening to! :)

First though, this is a great video that gives me hope about the rest of the sold-out mic rockers.

And now for Mr. Lif, droppin’ more knowledge on you.

A Holiday Thought

I’m so behind in my posts – end of semester, finals, registering for Spring, holidays – and you know I’m not a master blogger, yet. :) Here’s a quick one for you though, a comment I appreciated on a post from  Yahoo!Green. Normally people’s comments are half-informed, judgmental, quite ignorant, and totally obnoxious. This comment is an actual quote that I’m sure I’ve heard before, but was glad to be reminded of (even if they were maybe spamming the post).

Lot’s of new (back-logged) posts coming next week after finals & my holiday return to the burlesque stage- oh la-la!  :)

A Holiday Thought… Aren’t humans amazing? They kill wildlife – birds, deer, all kinds of cats, coyotes, beavers, groundhogs, mice and foxes by the million in order to protect their domestic animals and their feed. Then they kill domestic animals by the billion and eat them.

This in turn kills people by the million, because eating all those animals leads to degenerative – and fatal – health conditions like heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, and cancer. So then humans spend billions of dollars torturing and killing millions more animals to look for cures for these diseases.

Elsewhere, millions of other human beings are being killed by hunger and malnutrition because food they could eat is being used to fatten domestic animals. Meanwhile, few people recognize the absurdity of humans, who kill so easily and violently, and once a year send out cards praying for “Peace on Earth.”                                                                   ~Revised Preface to Old MacDonald’s Factory Farm by C.
